SY Maya
We bought Maya our 1988 Hylas 44 in the summer of 2011, and began the slow process of getting her ready for our cruising needs. When we bought her she was already in very good shape but we felt that by bringing some of her systems up to date, it would enable us to not only cruise in more comfort with the kids, but also enable us to get familiar with how she was put together.
The history of the Hylas dates back to the early 1980s, Joseph Huang of Queen Long Ltd. partnered with Sparkman & Stephens to build a 47 foot sailboat called the Stevens 47. They named her after Bill Stevens of Stevens Yacht Charters because he ordered so many of the original boats. In 1984, Huang added two German Frers designs of 42 and 44 feet to the stable. He branded them Hylas after a Greek mythological youth associated with Hercules and the cruise of the Argonauts.
